Hair loss causes
There are several causes for hair loss in both men and women. These causes are versatile but the most common reason that causes hair loss is the hormonal cause. The hormonal factor causes what so called hormonal alopecia. It is due to the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestesterone (DHT). The process of the conversion between the two substances is done by the aid of the 5- alpha- reductase type two enzyme. The presence of this enzyme increases the conversion rate and subsequently increases the rate of hair loss especially in men.
We cannot neglect the medications that cause hair loss as a side effect of continual administration. Some medicines affect the hair growth pattern and cause it to start thinning and falling down. Hereditary cause takes contribution in the hair loss causes and we cannot differentiate between the hereditary cause and the hormonal cause because the hormonal disturbance occurs due to hereditary cause. Even extreme stress and emotional disturbance may induce alopecia as well, either for men or women, although it is more common in women not in men.
From all of these causes, hormonal alopecia is the major cause that induces pattern baldness is more than eighty percent of men. The susceptible population is the group of men over the age of thirty five years and especially those who have previous history of baldness in the family.
The baldness occur when the DHT hormone accumulates in the oil glands of the hair follicle, when this occurs, the hair follicle tend to shrink and the hair filament itself begin to get thinner then it tends to detach and fall down
In general the alopecia or baldness is defined as the thinning of the hair and movement backward of the hairline over the forehead with the appearance of some areas devoid of hair in the scalp. There are different patterns of hair loss and doctors tend to define each case of hair loss according to set of patterns. The classification depends on the areas affected with hair loss and the severity of the case.
If you think that your hair is getting thinner then you should consult your doctor and find out what is the case exactly. Your doctor will ask for several lab tests to exclude the non contributing factors and determines the main cause of your hair loss cause.
If you detect you hair loss case early enough then the treatment should be easier and you will be able to see some positive results in less time.
